The lead story was the three men who are sueing the leader of a boyscout and Mormon church. They stated that the man sexually abused them when they were younger. I think it was chosen because the man accused is the leader of a church and is being sued. The anchor's tone and facial expressions were serious and made me pay a lot of attention to the story.

Week 5: Movies or Recordings

My favorite movie of 2009 is Fast and Furious. I saw it at the theater in April and thought it was a really good movie. The movie had a lot of action and I liked all the cars they drove. The actors did a great job on it and added another good film to the sequels.

Week 3: Books

East Side Dreams by Art Rodriguez was the first book i can remember reading on my own time. It influenced me to read other books because i was actually interested in reading it. It is about a bunch of kids in San Jose wich is were I live, and the characters reminded me of me and my friends so thats what got me interested. Another book that is influential to me is Lord of the Flies by William Golding. This book tought me that people need to be civil and that rules are made for reasons. People have to respect others and can't always just do what they want. I liked this book because I watched the movie they made on it and it helped me understand it more. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee showed me how there was inequality back then and there still is today. Some people have better paying jobs than others and everyone lives a different lifestyle.

Week 2: Media Impact

I am proposing a media research project to see if exposure to television helps characterize children and if it leads to good or bad behavior. I would make up a survey asking numerous questions targeting children ages 10 to 18 years old. I would ask them what their favorite show or movie is. I would ask them for their stories that may have involved fighting, drugs, and sex but also to find out if they see that on the television as a normal thing. From there I would see if they have learned good behavior or bad behavior from television and ask them what they thought they mainly learned. My hypothesis is that the television has a huge effect on children's characteristics and actions. Teenagers who watch a lot of television involving sex and drugs are more likely to be involved in situations like that compared to teenagers who don't watch a lot of television.

Week 1:media autobiography

The television was the first type of mass media in my life. I have always liked watching shows and movies that entertain me. I started off watching cartoons and movies wich have impacted my life and how i am as well as other people. My views of the world, other countries and how people are like come from television. People watch their favorite actors or favorite athletes and they want to be like them. I never really liked reading books when i was young. The only reason i read in elementary school was because it was homework. I can remember reading one book on my own time in middle school. I read East Side Dreams and I thought it was a good book because it was about where I grew up in, San Jose. After that I read a few books but up to today they haven't had much impact on me. I'm also not a huge fan of newspapers. They're good for reading about global issues or even just local news. I would read about shootings and deaths that occur locally or the week's weather, but other than that, I wouldn't look through the newspaper. The only reading I enjoy are in magazines. I would look through car magazines all the time, mostly at the pictures but I would also read the articles on them. I would read about the owner or the car and how much work was put in to the car. A lot of the information that I know about cars come from articles in magazines and I always wished I would own a nice car when I grew up so these magazines have really impacted my life. Every day I would go to school, I would listen to the radio in the car. My favorite station has always been 94.9 because I always like their music. I like the radio because it always talks about news, the whether, and even traffic reports. There are advertisements that have persuaded me to purchase things like a cellphone or mp3 players so the radio is a big thing for me. The most important form of mass media to me is the internet. It has literally everything! I have always used it to help me with homework and reports throughout school. I would check my grades online and that would help me to do better in school because i can keep track of how i'm doing. Socializing webites like Myspace would help me keep in touch with distant friends and family. Most of my shoes and clothes come from online sources. I buy all of my shoes and some shirts off of websites so the internet is my main form of mass communication.
